Marine Affairs Research and Education (MARE) is a unique conservation organization. With clients in more than 115 countries, it is dedicated to serving coastal and marine resource managers worldwide with programs to help them network with their peers, no matter their location or financial means.

By allowing incomparable peer-to-peer sharing of best practices, MARE speeds the improvement of resource management around the world. More than 70% of MARE clients state that its programs have made them more effective in their work.

“The MARE model” is distinguished by high program effectiveness, low program cost, and global reach. With no advocacy agenda, MARE produces innovative services on an array of coastal and marine subjects, funded by private and public sources and delivered at low or no cost to the client. MARE regularly partners on its programs with the University of Washington in the US.

MARE programs include:

MPA News, the leading global forum on planning and management of marine protected areas (MPAs);

Marine Ecosystems and Management (MEAM), an information service on ecosystem-based strategies for managing coastal and marine resources;

And forthcoming information services on marine debris, coastal/marine impacts of climate change, and marine biotechnology.
